Tennis: Metro stays undefeated in RMAC play

DENVER -
Metro State's men's and women's tennis teams both improved to 2-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Wednesday with wins over Colorado Christian at Gates Tennis Center. The men won 9-0 and the women won 8-1.

The Roadrunners men's team won 8-2 at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, and 8-3 at No. 2. Lucio Cangiano breezed to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and all six singles players won in straight sets. Gabriel Vlahos played No. 2, but with No. 3 Adrien Delvaux and No. 6 Alec Parmenter out with an illness, Thomas Lowes, Jonathan Evangelista, Ryan Joyce and Mike Riley filled in a No. 3 through No. 6.

The women's team came out of doubles ahead 3-0 as well. Marianne Evangelista and Sam Schall breezed to an 8-2 win at No. 2, as did Kelly Vu and Nicole Herrmann with an 8-0 win at No. 3. Alicia Holm and Nadia Khamis rallied from down 7-4 to win 9-8 (7-2) at No. 1, breaking CCU twice during the rally.

Holm lost 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 to Kara Williams, but Evangelista, Khamis, Nikki Amos, Herrmann and Schall all won in straight sets in their singles matches. Amos, Herrmann and Schall each won with a pair of golden sets at 6-0, 6-0.

Metro will head to Grand Junction tonight to face Colorado Mesa at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
