Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS - Marc Herschberger (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn H.S.) scored twice and
Arek Raclawski (Lakewood, Colo./Bear Creek H.S.) did so once in the first half as Metro State cruised to a 3-0 win at UC-Colorado Springs as the Roadrunners rebounded from their worst loss since 2007 on Friday, a 4-0 defeat from No. 19 Regis University. MSU improved to 4-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while UCCS fell to 1-3-0 and 0-1-0 in the RMAC.
It was Metro State's first win in Colorado Springs since 2009.
The Roadrunners were sluggish in the first 10 minutes as Brett Drefs had the game's first scoring chance, blasting a shot from the top-left corner of the box off the crossbar for the Mountain Lions.
But it was all Metro State after that. Herschberger broke the scoring open at 23:13, taking
Brenden Hughes (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.)' one-touch pass from
Andy Lopez (Phoenix/La Joya H.S.) into the center of the box and beating the goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.
Herschberger made it 2-0 just one minute and 47 seconds later, stealing a ball on the left wing and firing a shot from 15 yards out.
Raclawski notched his first career goal at 39:55, dribbling through two defenders on the right wing and shooting from 10 yards out, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Raclawski had two scoring chances in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but both were stopped by UCCS goalkeeper Brandon Costa.
Shailer Thomas (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington H.S.) made three saves for MSU, including a diving save to stop a penalty kick by Drefs at 86:08. He earned his third solo shutout of the season.
Metro State outshot the Mountain Lions 14-10 in the game, including 8-3 on goal.
The Roadrunners will play at Colorado School of Mines on Friday at 5 p.m.
