Box Score DENVER - Metro State fell to No. 23 Colorado School of Mines 2-0 on Friday afternoon to fall to 6-4-0 on the season. The win increased the Orediggers record to 6-2-2 on the season. CSM earned the season sweep over MSU after defeating Metro 1-0 in Golden, Colo., just over a week ago.
The Roadrunners dominated the game in most of the statistical categories including shots and time of possession; however, they lost in the most important category: goals.
The Roadrunners came out of the gate at the start of the game with a surplus of energy as they had a 9-6 shots advantage over the Orediggers in the first half. Unfortunately they were unable to cash in on any of their shots as several shots were either just wide or just high.
The Orediggers scored in the 34th minute on a defensive mistake that allowed Seun Ogunmodede to slip behind the Roadrunners' defense in their back half. Ogunmodede was able to just flick the ball over a charging goalkeeper
Shailer Thomas (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington H.S.) to give the Orediggers a 1-0 advantage, which was the halftime score. Joe Haines assisted on Ogunmodede's fifth goal of the year.
In the second half, the Roadrunners continued to control play most of the game, but they were unable to find the elusive game-tying goal. In the second half, the game became more physical on both sides as the Roadrunners received four yellows and two red cards while the Orediggers picked up two yellows of their own.
Nolan Glivar (Colorado Springs/Sand Creek H.S.) received a yellow for the Roadrunners in the 51st minute and then teammate
Arek Raclawski (Lakewood, Colo./Bear Creek H.S.) picked up a yellow in the 54th minute.
Tyler Gillaspie (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) for the Roadrunners picked up a red card in the 68th minute.
Josh Buysse (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) picked up two yellows in the second half as well for the Roadrunners. For the Orediggers Joe Haines and Zach Page-Belknap picked up yellow cards.
The final goal came in the 89th minute for the Orediggers as Tesho Akindele was able to shoot on an open goal as Thomas had dived to prevent Richard Garvey from scoring, who instead passed the ball to an open Akindele.
Thomas had five saves in goal for the Roadrunners while Manville Strand had six saves for the Orediggers. The Roadrunners will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Colorado Christian.
