Box Score DENVER - Metro State was swept 25-8, 25-17, 25-22 at No. 23 Regis University on Tuesday night in Denver. The Roadrunners fell to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while RU improved to 8-6 and 4-1.
The Roadrunners struggled through their worst set of the season in the first, hitting -.049, while allowing the Rangers to hit .382. Things improved offensively in the second set as MSU Denver hit .222, but Regis also improved to hit .419.
The third set was tied 22-22 before the Rangers scored the final three points to win the match.
Defensively,
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) was a bright spot for the Roadrunners as she dug up 19 attacks and was perfect in serve-receive.
Offensively,
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) struggled early, hitting -.176 in the first two sets, but recovered nicely in the third with seven kills to finish with a team-high nine and a .103 hitting percentage.
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) added seven kills and
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) and
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) each had six. Two of Metro State's middles Hoagland and
Vasati Fiatoa (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) also had solid nights, combining to hit .438 in the match in 16 attempts.
Metro State will look to snap a two-match losing streak at UC-Colorado Springs on Friday.
