Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Metro State earned a 25-20, 25-18, 25-17 win at New Mexico Highlands on Friday afternoon. The Roadrunners improved to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while NMHU fell to 7-10 and 1-7.
The Roadrunners played perhaps their best defensive match of the season, holding the Cowgirls to a .052 hitting percentage, the lowest for an opponent this season. They also had 10 blocks, the most in a three-set match in over a year.
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) led MSU Denver with 10 kills and hit .238.
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) hit .750 with nine kills and no errors in 12 attempts. Quijano also matched
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) with five total blocks to lead the team. Hoagland added six kills, as did
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.).
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) played two sets at setter and had 21 assists and three blocks.
Betty Van Lith (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle H.S.) also played a set and added eight assists.
Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) paced the defense with 10 digs and
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) had seven.
The Roadrunners will play at Western New Mexico on Saturday.
