Men's soccer: Skyhawks score four times in final 21 minuets to eliminate Metro State

Box Score DENVER - Fort Lewis scored four times in the final 21 minutes to rally for a 4-1 win at Metro State on Wednesday in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. The Roadrunners ended their season with a record of 10-6-3, while FLC improved to 11-7-1. The Skyhawks will play at No. 23 Regis University on Friday in the semifinals.

Danny Arrubla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton H.S.) gave Metro State a 1-0 lead at 21:39 after Brenden Hughes (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) headed a goal kick ahead of the Skyhawks defense, giving Arrubla a breakaway.

The Roadrunners remained in control of the game until Tamino Kroeger scored at 69:24 to tie the game. The momentum immediately shifted as the Skyhawks scored three times in a span of 4:10. Alberto Capdepon put Fort Lewis in front, striking a 30-yard free kick into the upper-right corner of the net at 71:23. Luke Lawrence pushed the score to 3-1 at 73:34, scoring from inside the box.

Fort Lewis added an insurance goal with 25 seconds left with Metro State's goalkeeper out of the box. Artur Piperkov shot from midfield to score the final goal.

James Tanner (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens H.S.) stopped three shots for the Roadrunners and Ryan Pakieser made six saves for the Skyhawks.

MSU Denver will say goodbye to five seniors including Andrew Mejia (Littleton, Colo./Mullen H.S.), Andy Lopez (Phoenix/La Joya H.S.), Brenden Hughes (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.), Kevin Pocalyko (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) and Nolan Glivar (Colorado Springs/Sand Creek H.S.).
