Box Score DENVER - Jonathan Morse (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) became Metro State's all-time leading rebounder as the top-ranked Roadrunners pulled away in the second half for an 83-62 win at Regis University on Saturday afternoon. MSU improved to 22-0 overall and 18-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while RU fell to 7-14 and 6-12.
Metro State used a 21-1 run over six minutes midway through the second half to pull away from an otherwise tight contest.
Morse entered the game tied for first in career rebounding with Shun Tillman (1986-90) with 915, but pulled down seven rebounds to go with his 24 points. It was the first game in Morse's career that he came off the bench after battling a minor injury, snapping a streak of 114 consecutive starts to begin his career.
Morse shot 10-of-12 from the floor to lead all scorers.
Demetrius Miller (Flint, Mich./Flint Central H.S.) buried 6-of-6 at the line and scored 18 points.
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) had 12 and
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) had 11. McCarron also dished out seven assists, tying a season high.
The Roadrunners struggled to find a rhythm defensively in the first half and led just 39-38 at halftime, allowing the fourth-most points in the first half all season. They allowed Regis to shoot 46.2 percent, including 5-of-12 (.417) from the outside and were outrebounded 17-14.
Morse led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting in the first half.
After Jarrett Green hit a jump shot with 13:19 left to cut Metro State's lead back to 52-48, the Roadrunners went on a 21-1 run over the next six minutes and held the Rangers without a field goal for the next 10:41.
Miller scored 12 points in the second half, including 10 points during the 21-1 run.
Metro State shot 55.4 percent in the game and held RU to just 40.4 percent. The Roadrunners also allowed just one 3-point field goal in the second half as Regis hit 6-of-16 for the game. MSU also won the turnover battle 8-to-16 and outrebounded the Rangers 34-31.
The Roadrunners will play at No. 22 Fort Lewis on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
