Men's soccer: Galan's late goal leads Metro State to tie with CBU

Box Score DENVER - With 2:04 left to play, Pierce Galan (Phoenix/Seton Catholic H.S.) dribbled the ball past defenders and scored the game-tying goal as Metropolitan State University of Denver tied with Cal Baptist. The Roadrunners fell to 1-0-1, while Cal Baptist moved to 0-1-1. It was Galan's first goal of the season.

In the first half, neither team could break the other's pressure as both teams headed into halftime 0-0. The Roadrunners edged the Lancers with six shots compared to their five.

In the second half, MSU Denver controlled the pace as they outshot their opponent 16-5 but could only convert one time.

Alex Anderson scored Cal Baptist's only goal in the 53rd minute when he beat the goalkeeper on a breakaway and had a wide open net.

In the overtime periods, both teams' defensives held up.  The Roadrunners held the Lancers to three shots while MSU Denver had two.

Overall, Metro State outshot the Lancers 24-13.

Andy Lopez (Phoenix/La Joya H.S.) led the Roadrunners with five shots while Brenden Hughes (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) followed with four.  Clyde Glastetter (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) also contributed with four shots. Danny Arrubla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton H.S.) came off the bench and posted three shots. Goalkeeper James Tanner (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens H.S.) had one save in the tie. 

The Roadrunners' next game will be Friday as they host St. Edward's at 3:30 p.m. at Auraria Field.
