Wheat Ridge, Colo.- The men's soccer team fell to St. Edward's 5-2 on Friday morning. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 1-1-1 on the season while the win increased Rattlers schedule 1-1-1 on the season.
The Rattlers got on the board early in first half as they scored in the 17th minute when Riley scored off a header inside the box.
The Rattlers were able to add another on board in the 42nd minute when Stiles scored on a free kick to give them a 2-0 lead.
At halftime the Rattlers were leading the Roadrunners 2-0 and also held a 8-6 advantage with shots.
In the second half, St. Edward's added another goal in the 48th minute when Fox scored on a penalty kick. The penalty was awarded after Tyler Trujillo (Denver, Colo./Mullen H.S.) had a hand ball called on him inside the Roadrunners box.
The Roadrunners were finally able to get on the board in the 56th minute after Brenden Hughes (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) scored on a free kick from inside the box. The free kick was awarded after the Rattlers goalie made an illegal touch after touching the ball outside of the box and then picking it up inside the box.
St. Edward's responded with two more goals in the 64th and 66th minute to push the lead to 5-1 in favor of the Rattlers.
Hughes scored his second goal of the game in the 82nd minute off a free kick.
Overall for the game, St. Edward's outshot Metro State 21-16.
James Tanner (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens H.S.) picked up the loss for the Roadrunners in goal but did have three saves. Also appearing in his first game as a Roadrunner was Keegan Hand (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley H.S.), who made two saves in his limited action.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Wichita, Kan. to take on Newman at 2 p.m. CT.
