COLORADO SPRINGS - Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) scored a header with 3:54 left in regulation as No. 15 Metropolitan State University of Denver edged University of Colorado Colorado Springs 4-3 in Colorado Springs on Sunday. The win clinched a spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and moved the Roadrunners into first place in the conference, improving their record to 11-1-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the RMAC, while UCCS fell to 6-7-0 and 5-5-0.
Price has now scored the game-winning goal in five of the past six games, the best stretch since national player of the year Kylee Hanavan did so in 2005.
On Sunday, the winner came on a header off a corner kick from
Abby Rolph (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.), who earned her second assist of the game on the play.
MSU Denver held a two-goal lead twice in the first half.
Brandi Farley (Colorado Springs/Pine Creek H.S.) scored less than five minutes into the game and
Tess Hagenlock (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) made it a 2-0 lead in the 11th minute.
The Mountain Lions trimmed that lead in half at 39:22 as Lo Vylecka scored on a rebound off an initial save.
McKinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) pushed the lead to 3-1 just 19 seconds later.
UCCS scored again just before half with 1:16 left on the clock. The Mountain Lions opened the second half by scoring just 54 seconds after halftime to tie the game on Vylecka's second goal of the game as the two teams combined to score four goals in a span of 6:32 of game time.
The score remained tied until Price's game-winner in the 87th minute.
Breanna Flores (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) made five saves for the Roadrunners.
MSU Denver will host Fort Lewis at 7 p.m. on Friday.
