DENVER - No. 8 Metropolitan State University of Denver stretched its winning streak to eight games with a 2-1 victory over Fort Lewis on Friday night at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver. The Roadrunners improved to 12-1-2 overall and 9-0-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while FLC dropped to 5-5-5 and 5-3-4.
Abby Rolph (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) broke a scoreless tie, scoring on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.
Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) was fouled as she tried to collect a cross in the center of the box to set up the penalty.
Carly Nelson (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) scored just three minutes later to push the lead to 2-0. A cross from the deep-right corner from
Brandi Farley (Colorado Springs/Pine Creek H.S.) bounced in front of the net to Nelson for the easy goal in a wide-open net.
The Roadrunners were called for a foul in the box in the 76th minute, setting up a penalty kick by Alicia Sanchez to cut the MSU Denver lead in half.
Breanna Flores (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) made two saves, playing the first 61:30 in net.
Sam McCurley (Centennial, Colo./Littleton H.S.) also stopped two shots, playing the final 28:30.
MSU Denver outshot the Skyhawks 15-10.
The Roadrunners will play at New Mexico Highlands on Sunday.
