Men's soccer: Four second-half goals give Roadrunners 5-1 win

DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver snapped a two-game losing streak, earning a 5-1 win over Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday afternoon at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver. The win improved to the Roadrunners to 10-4-0 overall this season, including 7-4-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. It is the 12th consecutive season with 10 or more wins for MSU Denver, the longest streak in the RMAC.

The Roadrunners led 1-0 in the 35th minute when CSUP defender Lucas Rodriguez headed an MSU Denver corner kick into the net.

That score remained through halftime. Jeff Gillis (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill H.S.) put MSU Denver ahead 2-0 in the 63rd minute, blasting a shot off the left post and then the crossbar before it crossed the goal line.

The ThunderWolves closed their deficit to 2-1 at 75:00 after a turnover deep in the Roadrunners defensive zone, but Danny Arrubla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton H.S.) answered back just over a minute later, scoring on a 2 v 1 breakaway after Gillis' initial shot was stopped.

Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) scored in the 83rd minute for a 4-1 lead and Arrubla added his second of the game a minute later for the fifth goal.

Keegan Hand (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley H.S.) made six saves to earn the win.

MSU Denver outshot CSUP 28-to-15.

The Roadrunners will host Fort Lewis at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
