DENVER - No. 21 Metropolitan State University of Denver hit .317 to sweep University of Colorado Colorado Springs 25-20, 31-29, 25-17 on Friday night at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners improved to 18-3 overall and 12-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while UCCS dropped to 9-13 and 5-8.
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) helped four players reach double digits in kills with 44 assists as
Abbie Noland (Martinez, Calif./Campolindo H.S.) had a season-high 15 kills to lead the team.
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) had 13 kills and hit .440.
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) added 11 kills and
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) had 10. Quijano also had four blocks and Hoagland and Noland each had three.
Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) had 19 digs to pace the defense and
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) added 11.
MSU Denver recovered from a 10-5 deficit in the first set and scored 12 of the final 16 points to win 25-20.
The Roadrunners never trailed in the second set, but UCCS fought to keep it close in the longest set of the season for the Roadrunners. Quijano and Greager broke a 29-all tie with a pair of kills to put MSU Denver in front 2-0 in the match.
A 5-1 start to the third set put the Roadrunners in control as they hit .375 in the frame to cruise to a 25-17 win.
MSU Denver will host crosstown rival Regis University at 4 p.m. on Saturday. It will be Senior Night to recognize MSU Denver's five seniors.
