DENVER - No. 11 Colorado Mesa edged Metropolitan State University of Denver 2-1 on Friday night in the final home game of the season at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver. The Roadrunners fell to 10-7-0 overall and 7-7-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as they wrapped up the regular season. CMU improved to 14-2-1 and 9-1-0.
Roy Abergil scored in the sixth minute for CMU after a long, cross-field pass from Nestor Escobar.
Danny Arrubla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton H.S.) evened things up for the Roadrunners in the 50th minute, taking a pass from
Ethan Ramsey (Peoria, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor H.S.) in the box and firing past a diving goalkeeper in the ground to the near post.
The Mavericks took the lead back in the 72nd minute on a one-touch shot by Alan Hernandez in the box on a pass from Abergil.
Keegan Hand (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley H.S.) made three saves for the Roadrunners.
They will open the RMAC tournament on the road on Wednesday. Their opponent will be determined on Sunday.
