SPEARFISH, S.D. - No. 20 Metropolitan State University of Denver held Black Hills State to a .000 hitting percentage to sweep the Yellow Jackets 25-15, 25-22, 25-18 in Spearfish, S.D., on Friday night. The Roadrunners improved to 20-3 overall and 14-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while BHSU dropped to 9-15 and 7-8.
It marks the sixth time in the past seven seasons the Roadrunners have reached 20 wins and the fastest they have reached 20 wins since 2001.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) led the defense with 17 digs and
Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) added 16. Garcia also had four service aces, helping the team to seven.
The team's 11 blocks were the most in a three-set match since 2012.
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) led the team with five total blocks and
Julia Dorsey (Auburn, Calif./Placer H.S.) had four, including three solos.
Offensively,
Abbie Noland (Martinez, Calif./Campolindo H.S.) had a match-high 10 kills.
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) and
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) each had seven and Hoagland added six.
MSU Denver dominated the first set, limiting the Yellow Jackets to a minus-.059 hitting percentage.
The second set was much of the same as the Roadrunners led 24-14 before BHSU fought off set point eight times.
The third set again saw MSU Denver hold BHSU to a negative hitting percentage (-.031).
The Roadrunners will play at Chadron State at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
