Men's soccer: Gillis' second-half goal hands Roadrunners first win over Mines since '11

DENVER - Jeff Gillis (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill H.S.) scored at 58:06 to give No. 12 Metropolitan State University of Denver a 1-0 win over Colorado School of Mines on Sunday at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver. It was the first win for the Roadrunners over CSM since 2011, snapping a five-game losing streak in the series. The win also snapped a two-game skid this season, pushing MSU Denver to 7-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Orediggers dropped to 6-4-0 and 4-2-0.

Nolan Barth (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton H.S.) dribbled up from midfield and passed to Gillis, who dribble into the box on the right side. He blasted the game-winning shot over the goalkeeper from 10 yards out.

The game was fairly even throughout, with the Orediggers holding a 16-13 shot margin and the corner kicks tied 6-6.

Keegan Hand (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley H.S.) made his first start of the season in goal, making five saves for the shutout.

MSU Denver will play at Fort Lewis on Friday at 3 p.m.
