GOLDEN, Colo. - No. 13 Metropolitan State University of Denver shut out Regis University 3-0 on Friday evening in the semifinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament in Golden, Colo. MSU Denver improved to 14-1-4 overall this season and will face top-seed No. 8 Colorado School of Mines on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the championship game. The Rangers fell to 14-5-1.
McKinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) put the Roadrunners on the board in the 34th minute.
Noemy Polanco (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood H.S.) passed the ball from the midfield to Rieber on the right wing, and Rieber pushed her shot to the right of the Regis goalkeeper from the center of the box for the score.
Polanco stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute. A corner kick by
Abby Rolph (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) found the head of
Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) in the center of the box. She headed the ball to the near post to
Brandi Farley (Colorado Springs/Pine Creek H.S.), who headed the ball to the far post for a one-touch shot by Polanco.
Polanco was part of the team's third goal in the 80th minute as her shot deflected off a defender's back into the net for an own goal.
Breanna Flores (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) made three saves for the Roadrunners in goal.
