Tennis: Roadrunners wrap up weekend with tight losses to ranked teams

LAWTON, Okla. - Metro State's tennis teams both suffered tought losses at nationally-ranked Cameron University on Saturday to wrap up a trip to Texas and Oklahoma. The men's team fell 5-4 to No. 15 CU, while the women lost to the 35th-ranked Cameron women's team. Both teams fell 9-0 at Midwestern State (Texas) on Friday as MWSU's men are ranked No. 16 and its women are ranked No. 19.

On Saturday, Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) knocked off 30th-ranked Dennis Marden at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-3. Trevor Jones (Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View H.S.) also won at No. 6 singles. The doubles pairs of Graetz and Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.) at No. 1 and Jones and Nick Baker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West H.S.) at No. 2 also picked up victories.

For the women, Naomi Holopainen (Lahti, Finland/Salpausselän H.S.) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Wanda Holopainen (Lahti, Finland/Salpausselän H.S.) and Cristina Oropeza (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales H.S.) earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.

The teams will play an exhibition at Cowley County C.C. on Sunday before returning to regular-season action next weekend.
