Metro State's men's tennis team will open the 2014 spring season at Air Force at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Notes:
HOLOPAINEN MAKES HISTORY BY WINNING REGIONAL:
•    Naomi Holopainen became the second female player in school history to win the ITA regional singles championship during the fall season.
•    Jasmon Crabb (2002) was the only other player in history to win the singles title.
•    Two pairs have won the regional doubles championship, most recently Rebecca Meares and Jessica Meares in 2003.
•    Holopainen is ranked No. 28 in Division II singles, the first nationally-ranked female at Metro State since 2004 (Rebecca Meares).

BACK HOME:
•    Metro State's tennis teams returned back to campus in 2013-14 for the first time since 2010.
•    Construction for the Hotel and Hostitality Learning Center and Marriott SpringHill Suites took place on the previous on-campus tennis courts.
•    The new tennis courts were completed during the summer of 2013 and are the first phase of the The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver.

LEADING THE WAY IN THE CLASSROOM:
•    The women's team had a 3.55 grade point average during the fall semester, best of any Metro State athletics team.
•    The men's team had a 3.29 GPA during the fall semester.
•    Six athletes made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll during the fall semester (3.5 GPA or higher):
    Naomi Holopainen (4.0, marketing and international business major)
    Trevor Jones (Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View H.S.) (3.93, civil engineering)
    John Qualls (Henderson, Nev./Foothill H.S.) (3.86, computer science and math & computer science)
    Taylor Thornton (3.73, psychology)
    Luke Lundstrum (Fayetteville, Ark./Fayetteville H.S.) (3.72, chemistry)
    Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) (3.71, human performance & sport)
