DENVER - Metro State's men's tennis team earned a 6-3 win over Newman (Kan.) on Thursday, while the women's team fell 9-0 to Newman. The men improved to 5-6 overall, while the women slipped to 3-10. Newman's women are now 13-0 on the season.

The Roadrunners trailed 2-1 after doubles as Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) and Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.) earned the only win, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles. However, Metro State took five of the six singles matches.

Graetz rebounded from a slow start to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1. Delvaux earned a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win at No. 2 and Nick Baker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West H.S.) cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3. Jonathan Evangelista (Brighton, Colo./Brighton Collegiate H.S.) and Chris Anderson (El Paso, Texas/Americas H.S.) sealed the team win with straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6.

The women's team lost its No. 1 player to a season-ending injury last week, forcing every player to move up in the lineup. In addition, the Roadrunners had to add two women's soccer players to the team to fill that void as Becca Medina (Denver, Colo./Heritage H.S.) joined and played at No. 5 singles in her first collegiate match.

Metro State is scheduled to play at Colorado Christian on Friday in its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener.
