DENVER - Metro State's men's and women's tennis teams each earned an 8-1 win over Hastings College (Neb.) on Friday afternoon at The Regency Athletic Complex. The men suffered a 5-4 loss to Holy Names (Calif.) in the morning as well and are now 8-7 on the season, while the women improved to 4-12.
Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) went 2-0 on the day at No. 1 singles, earning straight-set wins in both matches.
Chris Anderson (El Paso, Texas/Americas H.S.) also went 2-0 with a pair of straight-set wins at No. 6 singles. The Roadrunners dropped three 3-set matches to HNU as
Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.),
Nick Baker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West H.S.) and
John Qualls (Henderson, Nev./Foothill H.S.) all lost at Nos. 2-4. The trio rebounded with wins against Hastings in the afternoon match.
Graetz and Delvaux also went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles on the day, including a 9-8 (18-16) marathon win againts Holy Names.
On the women's side,
Wanda Holopainen (Lahti, Finland/Salpausselän H.S.),
Cristina Oropeza (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales H.S.),
Whitney Vaswig (Niwot, Colo./Niwot H.S.) and
Kaitlyn Miller (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon H.S.) all won their singles and doubles matches against Hastings.
Metro State's men's team will face Sonoma State (Calif.) on Sunday at 10 a.m.
