Women's basketball: Roadrunners win third straight behind Fox's career night

DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver won its third straight game, topping New Mexico Highlands 64-52 on Friday at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners improved to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Highlands dropped to 3-7 and 2-4.
 
Kaysha Fox (Tacoma, Wash./Woodrow Wilson H.S.) hit 4-of-5 3-point field goals to score a career-high 12 points, sparking the Roadrunners. Deni Jacobs (Plains, Kan./Southwestern Heights H.S.) finished with a team-high 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting, while pulling down five rebounds. Jenae Paine (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City H.S.) had 10 points and four rebounds.
 
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) and Emily Hartegan (Frisco, Texas/Wylie East H.S.) led the team on the glass with seven rebounds each as MSU Denver outrebounded the Cowgirls 43-to-26. Ohrdorf also had a team-high four assists to go with six points. Hartegan also had six points.
 
MSU Denver jumped out to an 11-1 lead, forcing the Cowgirls to miss their first 10 shots of the game. After Highlands got within one point, the Roadrunners responded with a 10-0 run to lead 21-10 with 7:40 to go in the half. MSU Denver went into the break with a 37-23 lead behind 12 points from Jacobs and seven rebounds from Ohrdorf. The two teams combined to make 9-of-17 3-point field goals in the first half.
 
The Roadrunners held a double-digit lead the entire second half. For the game, they shot 39.3 percent, breaking their school-record-tying streak of nine consecutive games shooting 40 percent or better. Defensively, MSU Denver held Highlands to just 33.3 percent shooting.
 
MSU Denver will host Western New Mexico at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
