CHADRON, Neb. - Four Australians combined for 61 points in No. 11/19 Metropolitan State University of Denver's 72-60 win at Chadron State on Friday. The Roadrunners improved to 17-3 overall and 12-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSC dropped to 4-13 and 3-11.
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) led all scorers with 25 points and had five rebounds, shooting 8-of-11 from the floor and 9-of-11 at the free throw line.
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) poured in 21 points with seven assists, connecting on 7-of-13 shots and 7-of-9 at the line.
Will Sinclair (Lilydale, Australia/Lilydale Heights College) scored a season-high 11 points and led the team with six rebounds and three steals.
Obi Kyei (Sydney, Australia/Sydney Secondary College) provided the rest of the Australian points, scoring four off the bench.
DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) had six points.
Both teams shot 48 percent from the floor, but the difference came in the turnover battle as the Roadrunners committed just seven, while forcing 14. MSU Denver also made 25-of-34 at the free throw line, while putting the Eagles on the line just 17 times (11 makes).
MSU Denver held Chadron State to just 33 percent shooting in the first half to take a 35-23 lead into halftime behind 18 points from Kay.
The Roadrunners led by as many as 17 in the second half.
CSC was led by Kendrick Holliman's 13 points off the bench.
MSU Denver will travel to Black Hills State on Saturday.
