SPEARFISH, S.D. - No. 11/19 Metropolitan State University of Denver survived to earn a 73-71 win in double overtime at Black Hills State on Saturday night. The Roadrunners improved to 18-3 overall and 13-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with their sixth straight win, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 7-15 and 5-10.

The Yellow Jackets sent the game to overtime with a late 11-0 run, burying three 3-pointers in the final 3:34. With MSU Denver trailing 64-63 with 4.9 seconds left in the first overtime, Black Hills State made the first of two free throws.
Sam Porter (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) grabbed the rebound of the second and
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) drove the length of the floor to score a layup as time expired, sending the game to a second overtime.

Eric Rayer (Colorado Springs/Coronado H.S.) provided the game-winning shot in the second extra session, burying a 3-pointer with 1:17 left for a 72-71 lead.
Obi Kyei (Sydney, Australia/Sydney Secondary College) made 1-of-2 at the line with 1.3 seconds left and McCarron stole an inbounds pass with 1.1 seconds left to secure the win.

McCarron scored a game-high 27 points on 12-of-21 shooting, including three 3-pointers, and had 10 rebounds.
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) had 16 points, six assists and five rebounds. Kyei had seven points and
Will Sinclair (Lilydale, Australia/Lilydale Heights College), Porter and
Jourdon Hunter (Denver, Colo./Kennedy H.S.) each had six.

BHSU went on a 12-2 run late in the first half to take a three-point lead and went into halftime tied 28-28 with the Roadrunners. McCarron led all scorers with 12 points in the first half, including the final seven points for MSU Denver.

The Roadrunners pulled away from a two-point lead with an 11-2 run to lead 58-47 with 3:54 left. But BHSU did not quit and scored 11 straight points, with nine coming off of 3-pointers, tying the game 58-58 with 43.1 seconds to go.

McCarron missed a shot with 19 seconds left, but got his own rebound, giving MSU Denver the final shot. However, the Yellow Jackets played excellent defense in the closing seconds, forcing a fadeaway from the top of the key that missed at the buzzer in regulation.

Riley Ryan led the Yellow Jackets with 18 points.
