CHADRON, Neb. - Chadron State shot 59 percent in the second half to rally for a 79-71 win over Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday night in Chadron, Nebraska. The Roadrunners fell to 11-7 overall and 8-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Eagles improved to 5-13 and 5-9 with their first win over MSU Denver since 2004.
Deni Jacobs (Plains, Kan./Southwestern Heights H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Jenae Paine (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City H.S.) sunk three 3-pointers and scored 15 points.
Luisa Tago (Medford, Ore./South Medford H.S.),
Emily Hartegan (Frisco, Texas/Wylie East H.S.) and
Brittany Curl (Absarokee, Mont./Absarokee H.S.) each scored six.
MSU Denver played a solid game offensively, committing a season-low 12 turnovers and shooting 39 percent. But the Eagles shot 8-of-12 from 3-point range in the game and made 25-of-42 free throws in a foul fest that saw MSU Denver whistled 28 times and two players foul out.
The Roadrunners led 40-34 at halftime after forcing 10 turnovers and hitting 6-of-12 from the outside.
MSU Denver led by 10 early in the second half, but an 18-2 Eagles run over a four-minute stretch gave them a 59-52 lead with 11:11 remaining. They hit all four of their 3-point attempts in the second half.
Kate Simonton led CSC with 22 points, making 4-of-5 3-point shots.
The Roadrunners will play at Black Hills State on Saturday.
