DENVER--Ryan Hoerdermann hit .600 with 13 kills this Saturday to lead MSU Denver in a sweep over Black Hills State. The Roadrunners won 25-15, 25-21, 25-14 to complete their second sweep this weekend, improving to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in the RMAC, with the Yellow Jackets falling to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in the RMAC.
On top of her 13 kills, Hoerdermann added to an impressive day with only one error in 20 attack attempts, as well as two blocks. Captain
Vasati Fiatoa (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) hit .533 with nine kills and only one error in 15 attack attempts.
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) helped the cause with ten kills and three service aces. Junior
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) had three kills in four attempts, along with 38 assists and seven digs.
MSU Denver came out strong in the first set, hitting .367 against the Yellow Jackets who struggled early, hitting .000. MSU Denver went up 18-14 before scoring seven of the last eight points to win the first set. Â The Yellow Jackets continued to struggle in the second set, hitting only .062. The Roadrunners were down 18-19 late in the second set, before rallying to score four straight points en route to a 25-21 victory. Â MSU Denver came storming out in the third set, hitting .412 and winning eight out of nine points to quickly go up 19-11, before winning 25-14 to complete their sweep over Black Hills State.
This was MSU Denver's second straight sweep and fifth straight win to improve their overall record to 7-8. The Roadrunners climbed to 4-2 in the RMAC, with the Yellow Jackets falling to 1-4 in the conference. MSU Denver goes on a two match road trip next, facing Colorado School of Mines on Friday the 9th, and Colorado Christian University on Saturday the 10th. Both CSM and CCU are tied for second in the Mountain division of the RMAC.
The Roadrunners next home match will be against New Mexico Highlands on Friday the 16th at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday the 17th, they will have another home match against Western New Mexico.
