Denver – The Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team bested Chadron State College in Saturday's Halloween matchup 3-0. MSU Denver won by scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-18. The Roadrunners improve to 16-9 overall and 12-3 in the RMAC while the Chadron Eagles fall to 7-16 overall and 6-9 in the RMAC.
MSU Denver also had 12 service aces on the day, five of which came from junior
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.).
In the first set, MSU Denver's consistent play allowed the Roadrunners to pull away and win 25-18. The Eagles hit .306 as a team, with the Roadrunners closely matching them at .300. Junior
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) had an started the first set with six of MSU Denver's 16 kills in the set.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the second set en route to a decisive ten point victory. Chadron State struggled throughout the set, hitting .160. MSU Denver, on the other hand, improved to hit .370 in the second set. Senior
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) led the charge with seven kills and only one error in the set.
MSU Denver won the third and final set 25-18 to complete the sweep. Junior
Ryan Hoerdemann (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.) had three kills in the set and nine total kills while committing no errors. She hit .600 in the match.
The Roadrunners go on the road next, playing Western State on Friday in Gunnison, Colo. with the game time slated for 7 p.m.
