DENVER – Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team took on Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Regis University winning by a final score of 1-0.
The one and only goal came during the 55th minute from a corner kick taken by
Danny Arrubla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton H.S.) as
Jeff Gillis (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill H.S.), junior forward, shot the ball into the goal on an assist from
Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.). This was Gillis's second goal of the season.
The match was physical with 28 total fouls, 15 for Regis and 13 for MSU Denver.
Hayden Rus (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) earned his seventh win of the season to improve to a 7-2-1 record. Rus totaled three saves during MSU Denver's win. The final 1-0 score gave Regis University its fifth loss and dropped the Rangers below a .500 winning percentage (4-5 overall).
With the win against Regis, the Roadrunners improved to 7-3-1 (5-2 RMAC) and will take on South Dakota School of Mines on Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Regency Athletic Complex.
