Men’s Soccer: Late Goal By Gillis Gives Roadrunners 2-1 Win At Adams State

Belfrage & Gillis Score In The Victory

Alamosa, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team defeated Adams State 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.  The Roadrunners move to 13-3-2 overall and finish 8-2 in the RMAC while Adams State drops to 2-13-2 overall and 1-7-2 in the RMAC.

The Roadrunners were forced to come from behind in the game after giving up a goal in the 28th minute of the game.  Ethan Jackson was able to beat junior goalkeeper Hayden Rus (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) to make the score 1-0.  The score remained 1-0 at halftime.

MSU Denver came out in the second half and scored in the 56th minute on a penalty kick from junior Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.).  Befrage leads the Roadrunners with seven goals this season.  The score would remain tied until late in the game when junior Nolan Barth (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton H.S.)'s pass found the head of junior Jeff Gillis (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill H.S.) in the 85th minute.  The Gillis goal, his fifth of the season, would stand as the game-winner for the Roadrunners as they notched a 2-1 victory.

The Roadrunners will advance to the RMAC Tournament.  MSU Denver will play Fort Lewis at the Regency Athletic Complex in a quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 4.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
