Caldwell, Idaho – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team defeated Eastern Oregon 78-59 on Friday night to pick up its first win of the season. The Roadrunners are now 1-2 overall.
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by senior
Tony Dobbinson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill H.S.) with 19 points. Junior
Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) had 16 points and sophomore
Peter Møller (Værløse, Denmark/Falkonergårdens Gymnasium) added 13 points. Junior
Andre Harris (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb H.S.) led MSU Denver in rebounding with eight.
The Roadrunners got off to a slow start in the first half managing only four points nearly seven minutes into the game and fell behind 9-4. MSU Denver would find its offensive rhythm and outscore Eastern Oregon 16-2 over the next 3:30 to build a 20-11 lead. MSU Denver would take a 33-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, MSU Denver would continue to expand its lead. The Roadrunners would go up by 15 points after a made jumper by senior
DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) with 15:04 to play. MSU Denver would continue to build on its lead as the half wore on going up by 21 on a jumper by Howard.
MSU Denver will square-off against College of Idaho at 7 p.m. in the final game of the Domino's Classic on Saturday, Nov. 21.
