Pueblo, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team defeated CSU-Pueblo 3-1 on Saturday night. MSU Denver improves to 18-9 overall and 14-3 in the RMAC while CSU-Pueblo falls to 10-15 overall and 8-9 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners suffered a close loss in the first set, 25-23. MSU Denver struggled to get much going, hitting only .048 with and posting 10 errors. The ThunderWolves played their best set of the night, hitting .297 with 13 kills and committing only two errors.
MSU Denver stormed back to win the second set 25-19. The team hit .333 with and raked up 16 kills, while forcing five CSU-Pueblo errors.
MSU Denver won the third set 25-12 in one of its most decisive victories this season. The Roadrunners hit .393 while the ThunderWolves hit -.032.
The Roadrunners won the fourth and final set 25-18 to clinch their 15th victory in their last 16 matches. Junior
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led the Roadrunners with an impressive 19 kills on the night and three service aces. Senior
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) joined Smith with three service aces of her own. Junior
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) continued her great defensive play this season with 17 digs, as well as dishing out 43 assists.
MSU Denver will return home to the Auraria Event Center on Wednesday, November 11. Game time is set for 7 p.m. as the team takes on Colorado Christian. MSU Denver will host "Volley for Vets" where the team will be honoring veterans as well as offering them free admission for the match.
