Salt Lake City – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team fell 70-67 to Westminster on Friday night. The Roadrunners drop to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by senior
Tony Dobbinson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill H.S.) with 23 points. Seniors
DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) and
Jourdon Hunter (Denver, Colo./Kennedy H.S.) each added 11 points. Dobbinson and sophomore
Bounama Keita (Saint-Louis, Senegal/Impact Basketball Academy (Fla.)) were tied fro the team lead in with six rebounds.
MSU Denver kept the game close in the first half with the Keita tying the game at 21-21 with 2:13 to go. Westminster would close out the half on a 9-0 run and the Roadrunners would trail at the break 30-21.
The Roadrunners would fall behind by as many as 11 in the second half. MSU Denver would trim the lead to four on multiple occasions, but would not be able to overtake Westminster.
Westminster outrebounded the Roadrunners 42-31 in the game and were outscored 16-2 in second chance points.
MSU Denver will face Colorado Mesa on Saturday, Dec. 12 in Grand Junction, Colo. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
