Grand Junction, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team defeated Colorado Mesa 73-61 on Saturday night. The Roadrunners move to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the RMAC while Colorado Mesa falls to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by sophomore
Hannah Stipanovich (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton H.S.). Stipanovich scored 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the game. Sophomore
J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) and junior
Luisa Tago (Medford, Ore./South Medford H.S.) each scored in double-figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) led the team in rebounding with nine.
MSU Denver used an 8-0 run in the second quarter to go up on Colorado Mesa 26-20 with 4:28 to go. The Roadrunners would take a 34-26 lead into halftime and would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.
The Roadrunners shot 55.3 percent from the field including 42.9 percent from three-point range. MSU Denver outrebounded Colorado Mesa 36-23 in the game.
MSU Denver will return home to face Chadron State on Friday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. in the Auraria Event Center.
