Denver – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team defeated Chadron State Friday night 61-59 at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners move to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the RMAC while Chadron State falls to 1-7 and 1-3 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners trailed the Eagles throughout the first half until sophomore
J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) hit back-to-back shots to give MSU Denver its first lead at 14-9. The Roadrunners put the pressure on Chadron State causing 10 turnovers within the first half alone. MSU Denver led by as many as 14 in the first have before going into the locker room with a score of 37-25.
In the second half, the Eagles managed to tie the game at 50-50 with 5:01 left in the fourth quarter. Sophomore
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) made a three-pointer with 40 seconds left to give MSU-Denver a 60-59 lead and Squires-Horton added a free throw to extend it to 61. Sophomore
Hannah Stipanovich (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton H.S.) sealed the game with a block on the Eagles last shot of the game.
Ohrdorf finished the game with a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Chadron State's Maka Daysh had 27 points and 15 rebounds.
The Roadrunners will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 19 to face Regis University at the Auraria Event Center. Tip off will be at 5 p.m.
