DENVER - No. 10/13 Metropolitan State University of Denver earned a 70-56 win at Regis University on Saturday night. It was the ninth consecutive win for the Roadrunners, who improved to 21-3 overall and 16-2 in the Rocky Mounttain Athletic Conference. Regis dropped to 5-17 and 3-15.
Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead the Roadrunners.
Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) shot 6-of-9 from the floor and scored 14 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds.
DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) provided 12 points off the bench and
Eric Rayer (Colorado Springs/Coronado H.S.) had 10.
MSU Denver shot 47 percent and committed just nine turnovers in the game, while forcing 22 Rangers turnovers. But Regis kept itself in the game by shooting 57 percent from the floor.
The Roadrunners led by three points at halftime and never trailed in the second half, but it took a 14-4 run to build an 11-point lead at 45-31 with 14 minutes to go. A 15-2 run late in the half sunk the Rangers as MSU Denver then led 68-48, its largest lead of the game.
The Roadrunners will play at Fort Lewis on Friday.
