DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver dropped its third straight with a 69-64 loss to Colorado School of Mines Friday night at the Auraria Events Center. With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 11-9, 8-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Orediggers improve to 11-11, 6-10 in the RMAC.
Brittany Curl (Absarokee, Mont./Absarokee H.S.) led all scorers with a career-high 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and two assists.
Deni Jacobs (Plains, Kan./Southwestern Heights H.S.) contributed 20 points with 10 rebounds.
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) added 10 points with six rebounds.
Jenae Paine (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City H.S.) had eight points and dished out four assists.
Balanced scoring helped the Roadrunners in the first half with Curl leading the way with 12 points. Jacobs had seven points to along with five rebounds. Ohrdorf and Paine both had six points while Paine added three assists. MSU Denver shot 41 percent from the field in the first half whereas Colorado School of Mines went 44 percent including 5-of-7 from three point range to take a 35-33 lead at the break.
The Orediggers led early in the second half until a 7-0 run by the Roadrunners as they took a 42-39 lead with 15 minutes left. Teams went back and forth throughout most of the second half.
Deni Jacobs (Plains, Kan./Southwestern Heights H.S.) hit two free throws with 2:30 left to tie the game at 61. Colorado School of Mines quickly gained the lead back and never vanquished the lead again.
Four Orediggers were in double figures with Laura Tyree leading the way with 18 points.
MSU Denver shot 39 percent from the field while Colorado School of Mines shot 41 percent.
The Roadrunners are in action tomorrow as they take on Colorado Christian at 5 p.m. at home.
