DENVER - Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) scored a career-high 36 points to lead No. 11/20 Metropolitan State University of Denver to an 88-70 win over Colorado Christian on Saturday night. The Roadrunners improved to 20-3 overall and 15-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with their eighth straight win to move into sole possession of first place in the conference after a loss by UCCS. The Cougars fell to 11-11 and 8-8 in the RMAC with the loss.

McCarron shot 11-of-19 from the floor and made 12-of-15 at the free throw line, while grabbing nine rebounds. He came up four points short of Reggie Evans' single game school record of 40 points.

Nicholas Kay (Tamworth, Australia/Newington College) poured in 24 points, shooting 8-of-9 at the line and also had nine rebounds and four assists.
DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) added eight points.

Mitch McCarron (Brisbane, Australia/Genesis Christian College) was nearly unstoppable in the first half, scoring 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting to give the Roadrunners a 38-35 lead at halftime. CCU was on fire from 3-point range, burying 8-of-15 in the first half to keep it close.

The Roadrunners went on a 22-6 run to lead by 18 points at 83-65 with 1:47 remaining.

For the game, the Cougars cooled to finish 11-of-29 from 3-point range and at 36.4 percent from the floor. MSU Denver shot 54.9 percent from the floor.
