DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver earned a pair of 9-1, five-inning victories over Western New Mexico on Saturday in a doubleheader at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver. The Roadrunners improved to 13-6, while WNMU fell to 10-14.
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.),
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.) and
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) each hit home runs in the first game. Espinoza finished the game with four runs batted in and Towner drove in three.
The Roadrunners scored three times in the second on Espinoza's three-run blast, three times in the third, twice in the fourth and once in the fifth.
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) scattered seven hits and one run in five innings to earn the win.
Lani Redmond (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol H.S.) and
Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) each went 3-for-3 in Game 2, leading the Roadrunners to another 9-1 win.
MSU Denver scored four times in the first, once in the third and four times in the fifth.
Nicole Larsen (Murrieta, Calif./Bloomington H.S.) allowed five hits to earn the win.
The two teams will meet for two more games at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
