Tennis: Stember leads Roadrunners to win over No. 43 SSU

Sam Stember (Melbourne, Fla./Satellite H.S.) earned two wins, including the clinching match, as No. 46 Metropolitan State University of Denver edged No. 43 Sonoma State (Calif.) 5-4 on Sunday at The Regency Athletic Complex. The Roadrunners improved to 6-5 this season, while SSU dropped to 3-9.

Stember teamed with Ludvig Henrikson (Täby, Sweden/Danderyds Gymnasium) for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles as the Roadrunners trailed 2-1 after doubles.

Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and Porter Emery (Casper, Wyo./San Joaquin H.S. (Calif.)) and John Qualls (Henderson, Nev./Foothill H.S.) also won in straight sets to tie the match at 4-4. Stember's No. 6 singles match was the final match on the court. After splitting the first two sets, Stember fell behind a break in the third set, but rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win.

MSU Denver will host Cameron University on Friday at 10 a.m.
