DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver's men's and women's tennis teams both lost 6-3 to Cameron University on Friday at The Regency Athletic Complex. The Aggies men's team is ranked No. 30 in NCAA Division II and their women's team is ranked No. 35.
For the men,
Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) and
Nick Baker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West H.S.) earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles over Cameron's top pair, which is ranked No. 5 in the South Central Region. Graetz also won 6-2, 6-2 over Dennis Merdan, the third-ranked player in the region.
Sam Stember (Melbourne, Fla./Satellite H.S.) picked up a 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 win at No. 3 singles.
Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) had an excellent day for the women's team, winning 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and paired with
Ana-Jelena Vujosevic (Milano, Italy/Skednja Ekonomska Skola) to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Kaitlyn Miller (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon H.S.) breezed to a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
The women's team will face Holy Names on Saturday at home at 10 a.m. and the men will face Hastings College at 2 p.m.
