GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Metropolitan State University of Denver's tennis teams fell at Colorado Mesa on Friday to open the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season. The men's team lost 6-3 and the women dropped a 7-2 decision.

John Qualls (Henderson, Nev./Foothill H.S.) and Trevor Jones (Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View H.S.) both won their singles matches and Qualls teamed with Calum Hayes (Leeds, England/Guiseley H.S.) for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles for the men.

Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) earned a 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 win at No. 1 singles for the women and Haleigh Chobanian (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette H.S.) won 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-5 at No. 4.

The men's team will play at Air Force on Sunday.
