ALAMOSA, Colo. - Metropolitan State University of Denver dropped a doubleheader at Adams State on Saturday, falling 7-6 in nine innings and 6-4. The losses dropped the Roadrunners to 10-6 overall and 2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASU improved to 5-9 and 3-5.
MSU Denver led 4-0 after the top of the first in Game 1, highlighted by a pair of doubles from
Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.) and
Lani Redmond (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol H.S.).
The Grizzlies rallied to tie the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth and the teams remained tied heading into extra innings. Erika Ecsedy led off the bottom of the ninth with a double and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly.
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) pitched all 8 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs.
In Game 2, the Roadrunners twice rallied from a deficit to tie, but never led again after taking a 1-0 lead in the first.Â
Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) finished with three hits and
Britney Thomas (Cheyenne, Wyo./East H.S.) had two.
Annika Anderson (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) provided a pinch hit, RBI double in the fifth.
Nicole Larsen (Murrieta, Calif./Bloomington H.S.) pitched all six innings.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday.
