Softball: Roadrunners earn two wild victories at Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Metropolitan State University of Denver earned two wild victories at Adams State on Sunday, winning 9-7 in eight innings and 9-8 in Alamosa, Colorado. The Roadrunners improved to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASU fell to 5-12 and 3-8.

Kaylynn Harmon (Erie, Colo./Erie H.S.) delivered a game-winning, two run single with two outs in the top of the ninth of Game 1.

MSU Denver trailed 6-3 before a four-run fifth inning put the team in front 7-6. The Roadrunners scored on a wild pitch, twice on an error and another on a sacrifice fly to take the lead in the fifth.

After ASU tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and Harmon drove in the go-ahead runs, starter Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) shut down the Grizzlies in the bottom of the eighth. She allowed four earned runs in the game.

Mary Towner (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and Harmon was 2-for-4 with four runs batted in.

MSU Denver jumped out to an 8-4 lead after a five-run fifth inning in Game 2. Susie Oury (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.), Chelsea Brew (Colorado Springs/Rampart H.S.), Carissa Terry (Moreno Valley, Calif./Valley View H.S.) and Lani Redmond (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol H.S.) all drove in runs with hits in the rally.

This time it was ASU with the rally, scoring once in the sixth and three times in the bottom of the seventh before Smith came on in relief and recorded the final out, stranding the tying run on second base to earn the save.

Redmond and Terry each had three hits.

MSU Denver will host Western New Mexico next weekend.
