GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Metropolitan State University of Denver fell 8-7 on Monday at No. 3/2 Colorado Mesa as the host Mavericks swept the four-game series. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CMU improved to 16-2 and 8-0.
The Mavericks trails 7-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but pushed across two runs to win the game.
Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) tied the game in the seventh with a double to left that scored
Darryl Baca (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) and MSU Denver took a 7-6 lead on a base hit in the eighth by
Nick Comito (Lakewood, Colo./Mullen H.S.).
Paust finished 3-for-5 and
Jake Thurston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview H.S.) and Baca each had two hits.
Kris Lalk (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) pitched six innings and
Josh Moore (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction H.S.) pitched the final 2 2/3, holding CMU scoreless until the ninth.
The Roadrunners will host Colorado Christian at 3 p.m. on Friday.
