GREELEY, Colo. - Metropolitan State University of Denver fell 6-5 at Northern Colorado on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference baseball game in Greeley, Colorado. The Roadrunners dropped to 22-17 this season. It was their first game against an NCAA Division I team since 2008.
Despite digging itself into an early 6-0 hole, the Roadrunners pulled it together to get within a run late.
Cameron Stroup (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) provided three shutout innings in relief and
Josh Moore (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction H.S.) pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Meanwhile,
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) got the rally started, leading off the fifth with a triple and scoring on a double by
Nick McCasky (Golden, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.).
Jake Thurston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview H.S.) provided a solo home run with two outs in the eighth. A leadoff single by
Trent Maloney (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) followed by a walk to
Nick Juhl (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley H.S.) allowed the Roadrunners to score three times in the ninth with the help of a UNC error.
The Roadrunners will host No. 2/1 Colorado Mesa on Friday at 5 p.m., opening the final homestand of the season.
