DENVER - Luca Anelli scored in the 84th minute to give visiting Newman (Kan.) a 1-1 tie with Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday evening. Both teams moved to 1-1-1 on the season with the draw.

Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) scored in the 64th minute off a corner kick. Dustin Berg (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) served the corner to the far post of the box, connecting with Brock Labertew (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon H.S.), who headed the ball back to the center for Belfrage.

Anelli then tied the game with less than seven minutes left in regulation, firing a shot from the center of the top of the box.

Both teams had several chances in overtime, but neither was able to push one into the net. Hayden Rus (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) stopped nine shots in goal for MSU Denver.

The Roadrunners outshot Newman 23-15 in the game. They will host No. 24 Northeastern State at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
