DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver rallied for a wild 25-18, 31-33, 25-20, 25-18 win over Angelo State (Texas), before falling 25-23, 26-24, 25-12 to. 4 Concordia-St. Paul at the Colorado Premier Challenge at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners are now 2-4 on the season. ASU dropped to 6-2, while CSP improved to 4-1.
MSU Denver trailed 18-13 in the first set before scoring the final 12 points with
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) serving to win 25-18 in one of the wildest comebacks in school history. Five different players had a kill during the run and MSU Denver combined for three blocks.
The second set was also wild with ASU pulling out a 33-31 win. ASU held set point five times and the Roadrunners held it three times before the Rambelles finally won.
The Roadrunners outhit ASU .265-to-.111 in the third set and .270-to-.135 in the fourth.
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) had 19 kills and hit .241 in the match.
Ryan Hoerdemann (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.) and
Vasati Fiatoa (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) each had 14 kills and Fiatoa hit .462 and Hoerdemann .400. Greager finished with 12 kills.
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) helped the team hit .254 with 58 assists and also had 18 digs.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) had a career-high 27 digs and was a perfect 21-for-21 in serve-receive. Greager finished with 21 digs for the double-double and
Jackie Lopez (Encino, Calif./Notre Dame H.S.) dug up 12 attacks.
Against the Golden Bears, Smith led the team with nine kills, while Hoerdemann and Greager each had eight. Haun continued to be perfect in serve-receive in 12 attempts, but had just five digs. Greager led the defense with 13 digs.
