PUEBLO, Colo. - Metropolitan State University of Denver's men's and women's tennis teams combined for three wins in Pueblo, Colorado, on Friday and Saturday as the Roadrunners opened the 2015-16 season. The men's team fell 6-3 to Nebraska-Kearney on Friday, before winning 5-4 over UT Permian Basin. The women's team dropped a pair of 6-3 decisions to UNK and UTPB on Friday, but rebounded with a 6-3 win over Central Oklahoma and an 8-1 win against Fort Hays State on Saturday. The men's team was competing at the Air Force Invitational tournament on Saturday.
Linying Xiao (Guilin, China/St. Mary's Academy (Colo.)) enjoyed a perfect 4-0 weekend at No. 4 singles for the women.
Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) and
Kasey Love (Daytona Beach, Fla./Spruce Creek H.S.) both won three matches and
Ana-Jelena Vujosevic (Milano, Italy/Skednja Ekonomska Skola) won twice. In doubles, Kerr and Love went 3-1 at No. 1 and Vujosevic and
Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) were 3-1 at No. 2.
For the men, newcomer
Joey Tscherne (Sylmar, Calif./John F. Kennedy H.S.) went 2-0 on Friday.
Porter Emery (Casper, Wyo./San Joaquin H.S. (Calif.)) and
Marty Lukosiunas (Vilnius, Lithuania/Countryside H.S. (Fla.)) each won one match as well in singles. Tscherne and
Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles, as did Lukosiunas and
Keenan Kaltenbacher (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Classical Academy).
MSU Denver will host the Roadrunners Invitational next weekend at The Regency Athletic Complex and Denver City Park.
