DENVER - Metropolitan State University of Denver earned its second straight win, topping Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-1 on Sunday at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver. The Roadrunners improved to 3-1-0 on the season, while CSDH dropped to 1-3-0.
Four Roadrunners made their first collegiate appearances in the lineup and
Lauren Kaufman (Lynnwood, Wash./Lynnwood H.S.) and
Josalyn Martin (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins H.S.) both scored their first career goals for MSU Denver.
Kaufman got the scoring started in the 20th minute, deflecting in a corner kick from Martin.
Freshman
Korena Perales (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) netted her second goal of the season, blasting a shot from 25 yards out and banking it in off the left post.
Louise Kallin cut the lead in half with a goal for the Toros less than five minutes before halftime.
Martin finally scored her first career goal in the 80th minute on a penalty kick after a handball was called in the box on CSDH.
MSU Denver outshot the Toros 26-15.
Breanna Flores (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) made eight saves in goal for the Roadrunners, playing the first 84 minutes.
Raeanna Rosales (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces H.S.) stopped one shot in the final six minutes.
MSU Denver opens conference play at Western State on Friday at 3 p.m.
