Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) had a career-high 20 kills to lead Metropolitan State University of Denver to a 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23) win over California (Pa.) as the Roadrunners earned their first win of the season on Saturday at the Ferris State Invitational. MSU Denver then fell 3-0 to No. 18 Ferris State (25-9, 25-19, 25-17) to fall to 1-3 on the season.
Smith put down 20 kills and hit .208 (20-9-53), while also connecting on four service aces against Cal.
Ryan Hoerdemann (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.) and
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) each had 10 kills as well.
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) assisted on 49 kills to help the team hit .220 in the match, while adding nine digs defensively.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) led the team wit h14 digs.
The Roadrunners hits .414 in the first set and held Cal to a .061 hitting percentage in the fourth set.
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) had nine kills to lead the Roadrunners against Ferris State. Haun added a team-high nine digs.
MSU Denver will play its first home matches of the season on Friday at the Colorado Premier Challenge against Concordia-St. Paul and Angelo State.
